GAP years in the Rankings

GAP years are becoming an increasing trend in the junior golf world and can be taken by a junior player for a variety of reasons. When that occurs we recognize the importance for those players to still have visibility to college programs and for college coaches to potentially recruit those players.

As a result, the Junior Golf Scoreboard is now including GAP year players in tournament results and the Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings®. Please read the following:

• A GAP year (taking a year between high school graduation and enrolling in college) must be done in accordance with NCAA and other collegiate organizations regulations. Families of junior players are soley responsible for being in accordance with those regulations.
• The junior player or their parent/guardian must notify the Junior Golf Scoreboard in writing
• Only rising seniors and seniors in high school, who have not verbally committed to a program, are eligible to choose to be designated as taking a GAP year and have their grad year so noted in the Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings
• GAP players will remain in the rankings as follows:
  • Have not enrolled in college, or made a verbal commitment, as defined by the NCAA and other collegiate organizations (NAIA, etc)
  • Until August of the year following their high school graduation year or until notified earlier of a collegiate commitment
  • They continue to be eligible to be ranked otherwise, i.e. have four multi-round events and 8 rounds in junior tournaments in the last 365 days
• GAP players will be:
  • included in the overall rankings
  • still ranked with their graduation year until that graduation year ages off the rankings
  • during their actual GAP year, be in the overall rankings, a sortable GAP year category, and ranked with the subsequent grad year category.

Finally GAP players are required to have a Golf and Academic Resume on the Scoreboard to give coaches the best opportunity to learn about a potential recruit. Entry as a Gap year player will begin as soon as the Golf and Academic Resume is completed and purchased.
