Changes to the Junior Golf Rankings

Always reviewing what we do

At the Junior Golf Scoreboard from time to time, we review all the areas of our effort to be sure we are doing the best we can as we follow competitive junior golf.

During that process we discovered a better way to properly assess a junior golf player’s performance through the rankings. While nothing has changed in our basic approach (65% weighting towards scoring or “getting the ball in the hole”, 25 % for SOF, and 10% for finishes), we found that the strength of field (SOF) underlying math was distorting its 25 % influence. While that percentage remains the same, we have adjusted the math that goes into it.

As a result of this mathematical refinement, some junior golfers have been affected and others have not. Despite this, an individual’s golf scores are still the same and nothing has changed regrading how a player performs playing the game.

With the coming summer season of more frequent play, we decided now was the time to make this change.

We believe every organization needs to always try to improve, and here at the Scoreboard, we are no different. Complacency is not a value we have.
