Is Competitive Junior Golf Healthy?
All the signs are good. Over the past 20 years we have tracked the number of events, the number of competitive rounds, and the number of players we rank. While not experiencing explosive growth like we saw when Tiger turned pro, the growth of this sport has been small but steady. Consider this:
- AJGA has expanded to over 100 events
- The Hurricane Tour holds scores of events around the country
- Here on the Scoreboard we have ranked as high as 12,800 players
- The number of girl competitors has grown by 3-5% over the last 5 year with tours like the Peggy Kirk Bell
- Junior golf is taking off worldwide with us here at the Scoreboard receiving results from more than 12 foreign countries
This is but a few of the positive signs about a sport that prides itself on honesty, integrity, and discipline. And as one player told us "It's sport where you always have the ball."
